A Bit About Me

The Transition From Film To Digital

My first proper camera was a Sony P100 which had an astonishing 5MP! Back then digital cameras were still in their infancy in terms of image quality but I loved using that little Sony camera. It was far better than the disposable film cameras I used to take with me on holidays - I think..

In 2005 I took a job at a camera store in the UK. Working in the film lab and seeing the stunning, professional images people brought in to develop, taught me a lot about photography and pushed me to continue to improve my own images. This was when film was gradually being replaced by digital - at least in terms of camera sales and print volume at the store! I left that job with a lot of photography knowledge and a decent digital camera recommended to me by one of the professional photographers who I worked with.

A Move Down Under

Fast forward a few years and I find myself living in Australia, surrounded by beautiful landscapes, coasts and stunning cities. I don’t have to travel far to be inspired to make some images. I’ve moved on from the Sony P100 to a Fuji X-T5 but the principles are pretty much the same - and more importantly I still love it.

About My Photography

Most of my images fall into the landscape or cityscape categories but I find these labels a little restrictive as photography for me is about getting out and capturing images you love - whether that is a landscape, portrait, travel or street genre doesn’t matter all that much. Based in Melbourne I spend a lot of time shooting the stunning skyline but also the Great Ocean Road and Mornington Peninsula are a short drive away so I am spoiled for choice as a photographer! I also love to travel and never leave my camera behind when I do. So whether it is a trip within Australia to Sydney or further afield to Asia or Europe you will always find me seeking out images to capture.
